The ULTIMATE Guide to Research at the IUBH BR

I was speaking to a student of mine and she was telling me about how difficult it is to find sufficient scientific and up-to-date literature for her Bachelor Thesis at the IUBH Bad Reichenhall.

I must admit that our library print collection at the Campus Bad Reichenhall is woefully inadequate for the research needs of our students. But thankfully, as the world moves towards digitalization, there is some very good news for all you students.

The IUBH has the BEST digital resources among any University in Germany and Austria !!!

Yes, I know the fees at the IUBH are not low (EUR 12.000 at the moment) but at least you are getting the very best for your money. Unfortunately, most students don’t know how to use these amazing resources.

Which is why I created this online guide to help you access these digital resources:

The ULTIMATE Guide to Research at the IUBH BR

1.You need to log in to the digital resources of the IUBH:

Click on the link to access the website. You should have received your log in data at the beginning of your studies. If not, write an email to with your Name and Matriculation number and they will be happy to provide you with your log in data.

This is your what log in screen looks like:

2.Once you have logged in, take a look at the left side of your screen:

3. Databases

This is going to be your first stop for conducting research.

Click on Databases > All Databases >

There are literally hundreds of databases that you now have access to (Read the advice on how to access them On/Off Campus). Some are terrible (e.g. EBSCO) while others are amazing (EMERALD, Taylor & Francis).

To search for a particular database, simply type in the name in the Search Bar!

The one you will want to head to first though is “EMERALD”. If there is one database you need, it is EMERALD. It is super expensive for a license but thankfully the IUBH has one !

The EMERALD database has literally thousands and thousands of Journal Articles on any management topic (including Hospitality Management and Tourism Management Topics) and is probably the ONLY one you will ever need (I wrote my entire Bachelor Thesis only using EMERALD – its that good !!!).

Try others as well including Taylor & Francis for Tourism related topics.

4. eBooks

Next, you will want to look at the eBooks. The IUBH hasnt paid for many eBooks but there are some interesting books on topics such as Hospitality Development or Sustainability.

5.  eJournals

The IUBH has access to some of the very best Journals in the Hospitality and Tourism fields. Most of them are only ON Campus Access 😦

eJournals > Hospitality OR  eJournals > Tourism

Some of my favourite Journals are the Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, International Journal of Hospitality Management, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Technology, Journal of Hospitality Marketing & Management, Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research, Journal of Human Resources in Hospitality and Tourism.

The difference with eJournals is that you have to browse for the right Journal Article (you cant search for keywords). Another disadvantage is that you have to be ON Campus to access them.

Also, most of the Journals’ Articles are included in the EMERALD database so you’re better off searching there anyways.

6. eTheses

I suggest that you read as many eTheses as possible before writing your own Bachelor Thesis. This will give you an idea of the different ways to write a Thesis.

For the BEST Theses supervised by the BEST SUPERVISOR, simply type in “Nayak” into the search field and Bingo! 🙂

So there you have it –  The ULTIMATE Guide to Research at the IUBH BR! Happy Researching 🙂

Hope this helps!

P.S. If you have ANY problem/question etc, simply send an email to and they will be happy to help you.
